about

"Back in the Day in Lahaina" is a collection of nine live recordings, revived and remastered from cassette by reed player Jerry Eubank.

~

The 1970s found jazz and R&B bands gigging throughout the islands at restaurants, hotel lounges and bars.

Us was no exception. Led by keyboardist Kit Ebersbach and singer Ron Tinsley, the group landed a residency at Nick's Fishmarket in Lahaina, Maui.

Following the 2019 release of "Unearthed Sounds from 1974" — a collection of live recordings salvaged from Kit Ebersbach's archival tapes — the band reconnected and reminisced over email. "What a blast from the past. This brings back a lot of great memories," wrote reed player Gary Wilson. "Fun listen through. Grateful for the experience with you all!" added trumpet player Larry Hall.

"Thanks so much for putting this together," wrote Ron Tinsley. "It was great listening to the old US band. That was a lot of fun and we turned a lot of heads back in those days.

"Don't know if you got them, but Jerry Eubank just sent some good photos of the band from back in those days. If you didn't get them let me know and I'll forward them to you."

Jerry Eubank had found more recordings and photos of the band.

As time would have it, two of the tapes in Jerry's collection were broken. One was really distorted. But the last tape — that one was still alive. His email to the band read: "FOUND "US BAND" Photos and Files to share... from the Nick's Fish Market Days". Jerry remastered the recordings with a touch of gain, EQ balancing, RX, and "secret sauce."

Here, we present what THIS WEEK Magazine described as the "mellow jazz-rock sounds of this Great group ... enjoyed nitely from 8:30 to 12:30 except Monday in popular Nick's Fishmarket restaurant, Lahaina, Maui."
